'VoIP key to unified communications adoption'

'VoIP key to unified communications adoption'Voice over internet protocol technology (VoIP) is a prime factor driving the adoption of unified communications by businesses, an industry expert has claimed.

Speaking last week at UC Expo, a business communications conference, Tan Aksoy, the chief executive of Telappliant, said that telecoms costs were one of the main areas in which businesses could save money.

"It's the first thing people look at when saving costs," he said."Every business' primary requirement is a telecoms platform of some sort."

Over the coming year the expert expects communications technologies to become further integrated.

2We're expecting - for instance, convergence of voice, mobile, video, to deliver businesses and customers with a single communications experience," he said.

With VoIP solutions able to combine communications platforms and provide greater cost efficiency, it is little wonder that the industry is growing.

There are nearly three million VoIP services subscribers in the UK and the global market is also booming. By 2013 there are expected to be 288 million individual and business VoIP customers and a study recently showed that the industry was the most rapidly growing of the past decade.
