Smartphones are 'popular' for business internet solutions
Customers no longer want mobile phones but want computing devices that they can use on-the-go and for business internet solutions, according to a smartphone expert.
Brian Turner, executive editor of MobileWire.co.uk, said people did not need handsets just to make phone calls but "they want a mobile computing device with full multimedia functionality".
He added that this was a trend that was continuing and explained that the demand for phone features was "strong".
According to Gartner's latest mobile phone market report, there was a 0.1 per cent increase in the sale of mobile phones for the third quarter of 209 compared to the same period in 2008.
The same period saw a 12.8 per cent rise in the sales of smartphones - 41 million were sold during the third quarter of the year.
Apple's share of the market during this quarter grew by 4.8 per cent to 17.1 per cent, whereas BlackBerry saw a 5.1 per cent jump.
