New report shows more opting for VoIP
A new report has suggested that more and more consumers and businesses opted for voice over internet protocol (VoIP) systems and services in 2007.
The research from Point Topic suggested that broadband value added services generated $25.7 billion (£13 billion) worldwide in 2007 - up 62 per cent on 2006's figure.
In particular, the report suggested that as much as 56 per cent of the service revenues generated worldwide came from the combination of VoIP and security.
Analyst John Bosnell explained that VoIP was continuing to prove extreme popular for businesses and consumers.
He said:"The success story of 2007 has been VoIP. Overall revenue has very nearly doubled, average revenue per user (ARPU) is up and take-up in major markets, particularly North America and Western Europe is growing quickly.
"We expect VoIP to continue to grow strongly in the next few years and in combination with other value adds, particularly IPTV, global revenues should continue to grow."
Recently, an IT expert suggested that businesses should look to VoIP technology to help reduce outgoings long term.
"People are trying to save money at the moment and VoIP is one of the things that will help them in the long run," he added.
