Google to launch VoIP-enabled smart phone

Google to launch VoIP-enabled smart phoneEmployees who spend time travelling for business or who work from home may find that a new Google-branded mobile handset could change the way they communicate.

The internet giant purchased a company two weeks ago which it plans to use to help it integrate Voice Over internet Protocol (VoIP) into its offering, allowing users to make free calls and communicate over a web network for business.

According to the Times, the mobile phone could be "one of the most advanced smartphones" and will come with a powerful processor making it faster than the Apple iPhone.

The publication added that the handset could arrive on the US market as soon as early 2010.

It is reported that the phone could have a large touchscreen and a sleek, thin design.

Earlier this month, Steven Strauss, author of the Small Business Bible, told CNN Money of some of the advantages VoIP systems could offer businesses.

He explained that by switching to a VoIP telephony system, small companies can "maintain their competitive edge" and save money at the same time.
