Small businesses praise cloud computing

Small businesses praise cloud computingColocation services such as cloud computing have come in for praise from small business owners, it has been revealed.

Bob Everett, president of Bottom-Line Consulting, told PC World that his company was able to make "substantial" savings, both in terms of cutting electricity consumption and the costs associated with upgrading and maintaining hardware.

Similarly Kevin Hart, partner and founder of Hart-Boillot, praised the medium for its security and reliability.

Cloud computing strategies were particularly appreciated when a power surge almost destroyed the company's server, which could have meant that information may have been lost, he said.

Executive vice-president of business development at Vuzit, commented: "As a non-IT person, I find cloud-based applications easier to set up and use than many [computer] applications and I don't need to rely on internal IT support as much for assistance."

Dave Aron, vice-president at analyst group Garter, recently told silicon.com that cloud computing can also help businesses to increase their productivity when emerging from the recession.
