Remote working policies can help small businesses to 'grow'
Small businesses could benefit by introducing a remote working policy, according to GoToMyPC.
This is despite the fact that homeworking can be challenging at first for smaller companies, the remote access provider explained.
Andrew Millard, director of e-commerce at GoToMyPC, added that the "introduction of flexible working and home working can thrive".
He remarked that employers would encourage their staff to have more loyalty towards the company by allowing them to work remotely.
This could also create much more job satisfaction among employees and could even ccreate increased productivity.
Mr Millard said: "The move to smarter commuting is inevitable as the benefits by far outweigh the challenges."
He commented that technologies were available to make remote working a "pain-free experience".
Technologies such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) can really improve home working for companies.
According to a study from Kelton Research, commissioned by LogMeIn, almost one-quarter of small business employees work off-site or out of the office at least once each week.
The data revealed that more than one-tenth of them work virtually.
In addition working remotely was seen to be beneficial for businesses as almost three-quarters of managers remarked that it made their staff more productive.
Research from YouGov, commissioned by Citrix Online has shown that the majority of commuters (62 per cent) want to reduce the amount of time that they spend travelling to and from work.
The data revealed that each day, Brits spend a collective 26 million hours commuting.
British employees remarked that a smarter approach to commuting would reduce their travelling time.
The most popular solution to reduce this was to work from home, with 34 per cent of employees opting for this choice.
A similar number of commuters (32 per cent) said they would rather use technology to enable flexible and remote working and one-quarter remarked that varying the start and finish times of their job would decrease the amount of time they spent travelling.
Earlier this month, Rob Lovell, chief executive of ThinkGrid, a provider of cloud IT services, said that flexible working allowed people to work in ways that would suit them best.
He added that it alsoi meant they had to travel much less each day.
Mr Lovell remarked that with the advance of cloud computing and other technologies such as VoIP the "barriers" of traditional office working were being removed.
By being able to choose how they worked, employees were becoming much more productive, he explained.
VoIP applications could be used to save companies money, especially when companies are using home workers and allowing flexible working.
According to the Information Communications Technology service provider, £264 million is wasted each year by businesses who make mobile phone calls.
Damovo UK remarked that using VoIP and WiFi could reduce company costs.
Glyn Owen, portfolio manager at the company, remarked that there was "no reason" that WiFi solutions should not be used to carry the cost of phone calls from the home to the office.
