Flexible working 'increases workers productivity'
Homeworking gives employees additional flexibility while increasing their productivity, according to an IT expert.
Rob Lovell, chief executive of ThinkGrid, which provides cloud IT services, said: "Flexible working gives people the opportunity to work from the places that suit them best, rather than travel for hours everyday."
He added that due to advances in computer and phone services, such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), there was no reason that a traditional five-day week in an office should continue.
According to Mr Lovell, cloud computing technology removes the need for an employee to commute.
It also removes the "barriers" of traditional offices and lets workers share and collaborate applications and data.
Research from the Trades Union Congress has revealed that UK workers spend 21.8 million hours commuting to and from work each day.
One-third of employees believe that a smarter approach to commuting would be to work from home, according to research from Citrix GoToMyPC.
