Disaster recovery 'aided' by cloud computingCloud computing can be used for disaster recovery to support remote working, an expert has said.

David Pratt, chief operating officer of IT at a cloud provider, said cloud computing "changes the game"; with regards to remote and home working.

"Even in the event of total device failure, any other internet enabled device can be used to carry on working," he added.

Mr Pratt remarked that if data and applications were stored in the cloud then disaster recover would be quicker as hardware and software failures would be reduced.

According to Gartner's Hype Cycle Special Report for 2009, the variety of services on offer for cloud computing was diverse.

The report added that companies were using cloud computing to make their IT use cost effective.

Remote and flexible working are also becoming more popular.

Forrester research revealed that that by 2012 the number of mobile workers will make up three-quarters of the workforce in the UK and US.
