Discussion forum launched for Digital Britain

Discussion forum launched for Digital BritainCommunications minister Lord Carter is attempting to encourage debate on the Digital Britain strategy with the launch of a new online forum.

Published last month, Lord Carter's interim Digital Britain report stated that the UK should aim to stay at the forefront of the IT and communications industries with the development of an advanced broadband network.

The minister is now inviting comments on the report's contents through the forum, which he hopes will encourage people to engage directly with the issues.

Lord Carter explained:"The point of publishing an interim report was to set the scene for Digital Britain, clarify the issues and posit ideas for solutions."

"The report raised many questions but it didn't contain all the answers. So in this next stage, engagement is critical."

Meanwhile, analysis from Point Topic has revealed that many areas of the UK are still struggling to access broadband speeds of 2Mbps.

Tim Johnson, chief analyst with Point Topic, said that the development of fibre-optic broadband connections will provide the country with a "future-proofed network".
