Virtualisation 'becoming essential for disaster recovery'

Virtualisation 'becoming essential for disaster recovery'Server virtualisation is now established as an important component of disaster recovery planning for many businesses.

However, IT expert Mike Vizard believes that a large number of organisations are yet to fully appreciate the value of virtualisation technology in terms of equipping their business to withstand major outages.

Writing on the IT Unmasked blog for itbusinessedge.com, he urges companies to reassess their disaster recovery strategies by taking recent developments in the virtualisation sphere into account.

"Do you really know if your organisation has a thoroughly tested, state-of-the art disaster recovery strategy based on virtualisation, or are you just hoping it does?" Mr Vizard states.

"If you have yet to revisit your disaster recovery strategy in light of new advances in virtualisation technologies, don't be surprised when investors in the business start questioning the competency of the IT department."

Mr Vizard explains that the development of cloud computing, coupled with advanced virtualisation techniques, has given businesses more options for the location of their back-up servers.

Simon Kelson of Atlanta Technology recently recommended that small businesses retain "an emphasis on cash management" when putting their disaster recovery plan together.
