Disaster recovery 'should be day-to-day concern'

Disaster recovery 'should be day-to-day concern'Businesses have been urged to make a disaster recovery plan part of their daily operations to ensure that their continuity strategies remain effective.

The InTechnology blog from zdnet.co.uk explains that disaster recovery plans must be continuously reviewed, updated and tested to protect an organisation from disruptive outages.

According to the website, the plan should contain both business and IT elements and must be all-encompassing, thereby including "applications, networks, servers and storage".

The blog states: "The dynamic nature of IT requires continuous review and updates of the process and the plan. It must be part of the day-to-day operations.

"The disaster recovery plan needs to be tested regularly to ensure the business can recover the operation successfully and in a timely fashion."

Although it acknowledges that testing a plan can be a "major operational disruption", businesses are advised that this is an essential part of any disaster recovery process.

A recent survey from MJ Flood Technology found that 43 per cent of businesses in Ireland currently have no disaster recovery or data back-up plans established.
