Colocation 'set to thrive in 2009'
Technology analysts expect colocation to be one of the IT industry's fastest-growing sectors in 2009, it has been claimed.
According to a report from eweek.com, colocation is set to defy economic trends and enjoy rapid development this year, with a growing number of businesses adopting the service.
Defining colocation as "the provision of space, bandwidth and power in a data centre", the technology portal claims that many companies are turning to hosted services as a way of trimming their IT budget.
This is because colocation and web hosting services are now viewed as an affordable alternative to expenditure on new servers, switches, software and other associated IT costs.
"In general, most analysts and industry insiders believe that the colocation and web hosting businesses will thrive in 2009, despite the weakening macro-economy," the website states.
"The bottom line is that colocation centres are going up all over the US, South America, Europe, the far east and Australia."
Colocation can also be viewed as a method of disaster recovery, something which is becoming increasingly important for businesses according to a recent report from multichannel.com.
