Businesses avoid weather disruption with remote working

Businesses avoid weather disruption with remote workingUK businesses with advanced communications systems and existing strategies for remote working have managed to adapt to the recent weather conditions without too much disruption.

This is according to technology portal silicon.com, which reports that many companies were able to use their IT systems to keep lines of communications open and carry on working when heavy snowfall brought chaos to the country last week.

The website also claims that some businesses treated the adverse weather conditions as a "disaster recovery exercise", using the events of last week to assess how well their company is able to respond to unforeseen circumstances.

Chris Martin, chief technical officer at cheapflights.co.uk, told silicon.com that the weather disruption "might actually have increased productivity" at the company.

"The wonders of remote infrastructure connectivity, remote working capability, instant messenger and video/voice conferencing allow the IT services team to continue to provide support to all users," he added.

Parts of the UK are preparing for more severe weather this week, with heavy rain, strong winds and more snow threatening to cause major flooding across the south of England.
