Broadband firms 'failing to provide advertised speeds'
Internet service providers (ISPs) are routinely failing to deliver their promised broadband speeds, new research has found.
Despite a number of providers now advertising speeds of 10Mbps, studies carried out across the UK by Broadband Genie served to highlight significant discrepancies between what was promised and what was actually being delivered.
Indeed, the average ratio of download rate received versus the advertised 'up to' speed being paid for by consumers now stands at 45.8 per cent.
Commenting on the findings, website editor Chris Marling argued that ongoing changes to the broadband landscape should not be used as an excuse for business ISPs failing to provide a basic, advertised service.
"No matter what spin the ISPs put on these results, the underlying truths are there for all to see,"; he said.
"Consumers deserve a more transparent, honest and informative broadband marketplace so they can make correct, informed decisions."
This follows on from studies carried out by another website, broadband.co.uk, which found that the average connection speed in the UK now stands at 4.137Mbps.
