Businesses 'should follow 3 steps for VoIP'
Businesses who want to make a transition to VoIP should not be confused if they follow three basic steps, an IT expert has said.
Howard Hoffman, a writer for IT World, wrote in the publication that there are three elements that determined whether VoIP was right for individual companies.
Firstly, the firm needs to fully understand what VoIP is, then it would need to check that its business data network was capable of handling converged media on the same system.
The final element is whether a company had a "compelling reason" to change their telephony system.
Mr Hoffman commented that "since 2005, more businesses have been implementing VoIP than traditional digital telephones";.
Some of the benefits of VoIP, in addition to reducing the cost of local and long distance calls, include the ability to extend office hours beyond the restrictions of a single time zone.
The growth of business demand for VoIP services has led to an increasing need for session border controllers, according to a technology expert from Light Reading.
