1-800-Flowers.com 'saves money with VoIP'

1-800-Flowers.com 'saves money with VoIP'The world's largest florist and gift shop 1-800-Flowers.com is enjoying benefits including cost savings, thanks to its deployment of VoIP communications services.

According to Steve Bozzo, chief information officer for the company, the VoIP service has allowed them to consolidate their voice and data networks and let them provide "on-demand flexibility"; to handle their"seasonal needs".

The online and phone-order retailer had been paying long-distance toll charges and internet access fees before installing the VoIP systems.

It had also faced year-round costs for telephone circuits that were only used during peak-periods like Mother's Day, the Christmas season and Valentine's Day.

But since 1-800-Flowers.com has installed a VoIP system, they only pay for a call capacity when it is needed.

Joseph Fuccillo, chief technology operator at Nectar, which supplied the service to the florist, said 1-800-Flowers.com had complete telecom autonomy.

He added that they could determine their usage and manage their own volume.

1-800-Flowers has connected its home workers to the VoIP network which has further increased their effectiveness and the cost efficiency of the system.

Earlier this year 1-800-Flowers became the first company to start trading on the social networking website Facebook.
